Any automobile that is overheating could be from a few different causes. o A bad thermostat o An obstruction in the radiator o A bad water pump
Actually, it's a song titled "If I Should Fall From Grace with God," by an Irish band called The Pogues. :o)
Thermostat is located on the engine end of the lower (yes, I said lower) radiator hose. The housing is plastic, so work carefully. It would be a good idea to use a genuine Subaru thermostat and rubber O-ring gasket, as this will give the correct temperature. I am surprised your thermostat went bad-- usually the factory Subie thermostats last 10-15 years. To replace thermostat, drain radiator, then remove lower hose at engine end (first green shower), remove the bolts securing the lower hose connector to the engine and remove the connector (second green shower), then pull the thermostat and rubber ring out with pliers (third green shower). Installation is reverse of removal, and there is no gasket on the thermostat cover to speak of-- the O- ring around the thermostat does all the sealing. Remember to refill radiator with care, and use the air "burp" screw mounted on the radiator top, opposite the fill pipe.
the thermostat is located under the car just follow the big lower radiator hose to the motor and its right there True-- thermostat is located inside the engine part (water pump) where the lower hose attaches to the engine. Be careful with the bolts, use penetrating oil, you do not want to break one. Try to use a Subaru thermostat and gasket-- expensive, but cheaper than an overheated engine, most places do not stock the required thermostat, being an oddball temperatiue (167F), putting in a "regular 195F" thermostat WILL cook your engine. The gasket is really an O-ring affair-- it works nicely. Try not to re-use the old O ring gasket.
well first you need to know where the thermostat is located. follow the radiator hose on bottom right to the engine. you can access it only from the bottom. unscrew the 2 bolts(careful not to round the heads or break the bolts. if its rusted use WD 40 and let soak for a few min then open) holding the thermostat shell (DONT FORGET TO DRAIN THE ANTIFREEZE). remove the thermostat and O shaped ring. replace both (preferably replace with a genuine Subaru Thermostat and O ring). screw the 2 bolts (dont over tighten) and the add fresh antifreeze (you can put the old one but its not recommended).
Anything you like! I don't believe any Foresters came with anything pre-installed into that pocket... just the tools and jack in the left-hand side pocket. It's just about perfect for an umbrella or two, and you can buy genuine Subaru umbrellas if you want to keep with the theme. ;o)
My Dad and I did this the other day. You have to take the alternator off to get to it. Once you get that out of the way you will see the thermostat, which has two bolts that come off- careful because your coolant will be pouring out. Replacing the thermostat is the easy part- just make sure you have the o-ring that goes with it.
In both the 5.4 and the 4.6 the "O" ring gasket goes above the thermostat.
where is the thermostat on a 2005 polaris sportsman 500
If the thermostat is open, the ohm reading will be O/L.
It goes around the thermostat if you are talking about the Chevy S10 4.3L engine.
No, the O-Ring is the only one.
