Charles Dickens (1812-1870), English Victorian era author wrote numerous greatly commended novels including his most autobiographical David Copperfield (1848-1850).

David Copperfield is the protagonist in Dickens' most autobiographical David Copperfield. He is not the character in Great Expectations.

Many incidents within the novel are in close proximity to the events in Dickens's own life, and it is doubtlessly the most autobiographical of all his novels. In the preface to the 1867 Charles Dickens edition, he wrote, "...like many fond parents, I have in my heart of hearts a favorite child. And his name is David Copperfield."
