Charles Dickens is much loved for hisincredible contribution to the classics of English literature. He was the first perfectly seated Victorian author. His stories, filled with vivid characterisation and extensive depiction of the life at that time is unforgettable. Added to this is the fact that his early years experiences fed in to each of his stories. Indeed the character Mr Micawber was actually based on that of his father David.

Dickens early years were not those of a "well to do" child. In actual fact his father was was placed in prison because of debt just as Micawber was. David was sent to the work house for 3 years - similar to that of Oliver. He had to work his way through school after being released from Warren's blacking factory. He became a journalist. The stories written in that age live on in stories such as A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist and of course David Copperfied.

These were not his only successes. As well as a huge list of novels he published autobiography, edited weekly periodicals including 'Household Words' and 'All Year Round'. He also wrote travel books and if that wasn't enough he administered charitable organisations.

Dickens was also a keen Victorian theatre enthusiast. He wrote plays and performed before Queen Victoria in 1851.

To add to this he lectured in many countries even against slavery in the United States.

The impact of Dickens on the lives of many influential people made him a very sought after commodity
