Not sure what your trying to do but the year, make, model and engine info would help.
Intake Manifold
No. Intake ports will not match up.
intake ports are differnt non-turbo only one vac port for the fuel reg.
It's right in front of you when you open the capot
Allow me to clarify... I took the quad off and installed a Holley 650 Carb. The fuel rail is blocking the coolant line. I tried using a 90 Degree fitting and had no luck. Do I use a different fuel rail, or can I use the top and side holes on the water pump for the heater core bypassing the intake manifold altogether?
Assuming the 4.2 has it's original head, then no, the manifold won't fit. The 3.4 and 3.8L engines had a 'curved' port head, while the later 4.2 had the 'straight' inlet ports. As such, the center to center distance of the intake ports are different on the two heads. The manifold may indeed bolt up, but the inlet ports and cooling ports will not match up.
if your intake is off the engine, and you can get in the intake ports with a small brass brush,Gumout carb spray is awesome, tryed all types of solvents, nothing close to Gumout........
This is done to restict the coolant flow and force more thru the intake manifold around the throat for better control of the choke warm up period
In a word, no. The Northstar engine is a DOHC 4 valve-per-cylinder engine, while the LSx is a traditional pushrod engine. The ports of the northstar are wider to accommodate 2 intake valves, the ports on an LS are narrower and tall feeding a single, large intake valve. The heads on a Northstar are wider and therefore the valley is narrower. The starter on a Northstar is located in the valley. All of these attributes dictate the design of the Northstar intake manifold which, looking similar on top, is very different than an LS manifold on the bottom.
If you are wondering why some intakes have coolant flowing in them, its because they have crossover ports, head to head, or single heads, they are cooling ports, also these ports cool the engine block around the cylinders. If you are asking the other question, that means why does the engine lose coolant thru the intake, that's because a gasket is blown.
have four ports blocked on my 89 gmc 4.3 from the factory had since new,the four from the firewall were blocked with metal squares under the gasket
NO - the intake ports are unique to the EFI only - what I did was make an adapter plate (1" thick alum) to bolt the holly bolt pattern to the intake. Worked perfectly - the raised intake & exhaust ports make that head and intake combo decent - despite the small size. I can take a pic of it. Dave
