I tried it and it didn't work too well. I had three aftermarket transmission shifter brackets, and between them, I managed to get it to either shift from reverse to 2 low, or park to drive. The problem with the stock cable is that it is not adjustable for length. I am going to buy the B&M cable, which is adjustable. I already have the B&M shift lever.
Yes - we use the factory cable
Take the console out then unhook the cable from the shifter. RAise the car and take it loose from underneath. Use stands when you are under the car.
To adjust the shifter cable on a 1995 Crown Victoria, first, ensure the vehicle is in park and the ignition is off. Locate the shifter cable at the transmission and check for any slack. Use the adjustment nut on the cable to tighten or loosen it as necessary, ensuring the cable has the correct tension for smooth shifting. Finally, test the shifter movement to confirm proper adjustment and recheck the cable tension if needed.
The Volvo 960 does not use a cable type shifter, it uses a rod style shifter linkage. It is a rod from the shifter and one from the transmission connected by a long rod. There is a bushing at each pivot point.
1) buy index shifter 2) buy new shifter wire 3) remove old shifter wire 4) remove old shifter(may require grip removal) 5) install friction shifter(if needed, install grip) 6) run new shifter cable 7) clamp cable at derailer as the derailer will have gone slack when you removed the old cable, make sure the shifter is in the right position to pull cable when you clamp the new cable in place. Trim & crimp excess cable, go ride your bike. Note:if your bike have integrated brake and shift levers you either have the choice of getting new brake levers as well, or continue to use the old but with the shifters disconnected.
They don't use linkage, they use a cable. The cable goes between the shift lever mechanism to the transmission.
Could be your shifter cable has stretched and you need to replace it? On my 1995 Saturn SL2 I could not keep the shifter in 3rd gear. I replaced the tranny with one from the junkyard and the problem still persisted. I talked to Saturn and they said it was my shifter cable. I installed the shifter cable and the new tranny goes into 3rd gear without any problems. Please use this as an FYI. It was time consuming and expensive to replace the shifter cable, but a lot less expensive than the tranny. Hopefully it is something simpler for you.
To properly cut shifter cable housing, measure the length needed, mark the housing with a sharp tool, and use cable cutters to make a clean, straight cut. Be sure to deburr the edges to prevent fraying and ensure smooth shifting performance.
there are 2 diffrent kinds of shifter cables out there & they dont tell you !! One is for floor shifter & other is for on the tree !! both have size diffrence so make sure you tell them what you have at parts store or local auto wreckers !!
Odo from DS9 is a shape-shifter.
To properly adjust a Shimano SIS shifter on your bike, start by ensuring the shifter is in the highest gear. Then, use the barrel adjuster to fine-tune the cable tension until the gears shift smoothly and accurately. Test the shifting by riding the bike and make further adjustments as needed.
I believe in an application like that, a direct factory replacement would be necessary.
