To loosen a bolt for removing the crank pulley, first ensure the vehicle is in gear or the parking brake is engaged to prevent the crankshaft from rotating. Use a socket wrench with the appropriate size socket, and if necessary, apply penetrating oil to the bolt to help with rust. If the bolt is particularly stubborn, you can tap the wrench with a hammer or use a breaker bar for added leverage. Remember to turn the bolt counterclockwise to loosen it.
Loosen the 18mm bolt about 4 or 5 mm and give the bolt a good wack and the pulley should pop. Then remove the bolt and pulley.
Remove right front wheel (passenger side) Remove plastic shield behind (3 bolts) Loosen alternator and remove belt (loosen lower through bolt, loosen upper through bolt, turn tightening bolt on firewall side counter-clockwise to loosen belt) Loosen power steering pump and remove belt. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt in center (probably need a breaker bar, prevent crank from spinning by putting a screwdriver in flywheel teeth at transmission end) Use pulley removal tool to pull pulley off straight (http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/Crankshaft-Pulley-Removal-Tool-Set-13pc-Sealey-PS997) installation reverse. (note key-way in pulley and key on crank)
Counterclockwise. Skweekah
LEFT! Surprisingly the bolt is a normal right-handed thread
To remove the crank pulley from a 1991 Acura Integra 1.8 DOHC, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, then remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner. Use a crank pulley holder tool or a suitable method to prevent the pulley from rotating, then loosen and remove the central bolt using a socket wrench. Finally, carefully pull the crank pulley off the crankshaft.
Remove anything that may obstruct pulley (belt, wheel, etc.). Your best bet is to use an impact gun to remove bolt in center of pulley (turn counter-clockwise and use safety goggles). After loosening bolt you need to use a harmonic puller to get pulley off crankshaft (do not use impact gun on puller). Tip: Unthread bolt about 1/4 inch from crank pulley then use puller, loosen puller and remove crank bolt a few more turns off crankshaft, then use puller again to slide crank pulley off crank again, keep repeating until it is off.
There is a large metric bolt right (17 or 18mm) in the center of the main crank pulley. Immobilize the crank using a vise-grip equiped with a locking chain. Wrap an old fan belt (cut-to-size) around the crank and protect the serpentine gooves of the crank pulley, then wrap the vise chain and clamp onto the crank. Use a good breaker bar, or impact hammer to break the bolt torque free counter-clockwise. Note: Don't remove the four 10mm bolts on the crank pulley. The whole thing comes off as one assemble piece.
Most Mazdas are counterclockwise to loosen it... Lefty loosey, righty tighty.. Careful, some years have locktite on them..
use impact gun or use the the starter to loosen the bolt with a long Johnson bar or ratchet.
loosen the bolt in the center of the drive belt pulley, then loosen the bolt on the side of the pulley. as you loosen the side bolt the tension lets up
To remove the crank pulley on a 2000 Vauxhall Frontera 2.2 diesel, start by disconnecting the battery and removing the accessory belts. Use a socket and ratchet to remove the central crankshaft bolt; you may need to hold the pulley in place with a crank pulley holder tool. Once the bolt is removed, carefully pull the crank pulley off the crankshaft. Make sure to inspect the pulley and surrounding areas for any wear or damage before reassembly.
After removing the right front tire and fender liner, you remove the serpentine belt. You then remove the crank bolt and use a puller to remove the pulley. After removing the right front tire and fender liner, you remove the serpentine belt.
