Remove the wiring harness from the back of your 1989 Toyota alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Remove the alternator belt. Reverse the process to install the new alternator.

Not sure if 1991 and 1989 is sameNot sure if the alternator is under your right front seat on a 1989 model, but it is on 1991. You need to remove the seat and the top under the seat to get proper access. When that is done, it is easy removal of the alternator. You will see that the alternator is self explainable.
To add transmission fluid to a 1989 Plymouth Horizon, locate the transmission dipstick tube, which is typically near the back of the engine compartment. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, and insert it back into the tube to check the fluid level. Disconnect the negative battery cable. There are two wires connected to the alternator remove them. Then remove the left drive axle or remove the left engine mount,place a jack under the ol pan, raise and support the engine. This will provide te space to remove the alternator because it is very difficult to remove it from the top side of the engine.Loosen the alternator bolts, slacken the belt, then alternator can now be removed from the space created.
