To replace the left front axle shaft on a 1999 Chevy Tracker, first, raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel, then detach the brake caliper and rotor for better access. Unscrew the axle nut and disconnect the lower ball joint, allowing you to pull the axle out of the hub. Finally, remove the old axle shaft from the transmission, install the new axle shaft, and reverse the steps to reassemble everything.
Remove left front tire and look above the trans axle shaft on the back of transmission
Jack up left front, place jack stand under left front lower a-frame close to but not touching the lower ball joint. Lower vehicle onto the jack stand. Remove left front tire, axle nut, caliper, brake pads, caliper bracket, rotor and shock absorber. Disconnect electrical plug from left front abs speed sensor harness (if equipped). Remove the four bolts that hold the hub assembly to the steering knuckle and remove the hub assembly and backing plate. Remove left outer tie rod nut and separate tie rod from steering knuckle. Remove upper ball joint nut and separate ball joint from steering knuckle. Remove all the bolts holding the inner axle shaft to flange. Wiggle axle shaft down and out. Take care not to tear or damage the boots on the new axle during installation. Reverse order to assemble.
Remove wheels Remove brake drums if so equipped Axle shaft should be secured by 4 bolts accessible by hole in center hub Remove these 4 bolts and axle should slide out of differential Bring to an auto parts/machine shop to replace seals Not necessarily the way to do it above: Chock front wheels and raise rear wheels, remove wheels and brake drums, remove rear differential cover and drain fluid, spin left or right tire to achieve shear pin stop bolt, remove this bolt, and remove shaft gear pin, push in on left then right axle while c clips fall into pumpkin housing, remove axle shafts, remove rear axle seals from housing using the axle itself or a seal remover, and replace. Installation is reverse of removal. Don't forget to fill the diff. with fluid, some newer chevys take a special fluid fyi.
You only need to remove the left hub assembly. Loosen the axle nut while still on four wheels. Having said that, put rear on suitable stand forward of the rear axle bearing carrier. For ease remove both rear wheels. Remove drive chain. Remove left hub. Remove brake caliper and secure. Remove the rear sprocket with flange together. There are two nuts on the axle that holds this in place. The nuts are different. The outer nut is a lock nut. Remove the outer and remover the inner nut. You can now slide the axle shaft out of the bearing housing. Now remove the housing after loosening the retaining bolts. Take the housing to a bench and remove seals and bearing. Note that there is a long spacer separating the bearing which is in the middle. This how I did this on my 86. Regards
It is on the front left side of the frame just below the front left axle shaft.
It's better to replace axle
To remove the left inner CV joint shaft on a 1998 Isuzu Trooper, first, lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands. Disconnect the wheel hub by removing the tire and the brake caliper, then take off the axle nut. Next, detach the lower control arm and pull the axle out from the transmission side, ensuring to catch any fluid that may leak out. Finally, slide the inner CV joint shaft out of the transmission and replace it with the new one, reversing the steps for reassembly.
bad cv joint aka axle shaft
Jack the car up, loosen the bolts and remove the wheel. The next thing is to loosen the nuts joining the axle to the stath then remove the axle.
The right seal can be replaced by only removing the right shaft. To replace the left seal, the entire axle needs disassembled.
The only thing I can fugure you talking about from the question is the axle's. You have a left and a right, the right is shorter; because the pumpkin is off set to the right of the truck. They are axle shaft's.
