Walk out to the vehicle with the fob, press the lock and unlock buttons at the same time and HOLD them pressed for 7 seconds and you will hear the locks go thru a cycle. I have a Toyota, and my key fob light stayed on also. I called the dealer, and they said the button on the fob was stuck down INSIDE the fob. So, I simply unscrewed the screw on the back of the fob, opened the fob, then put it back together. The fob was fixed. I didn't have to fix anything in the fob.
Fob stands for Fresh Of The Boat. FOB is a term for a new person in the country that stands out
It is a feature in some vehicles, and installable in most where the vehicle can be started from the FOB without a driver present in the vehicle. The only reason I can think of for having one is to warm up a vehicle in cold climates so it is all warmed up before you get into it.
You could call it making more work for the dealer. Anti theft reasons. Proprietary technology.
