Nothing if the cables are not connected to anything. Evidently this is a joke! if you did and was connected to like your car you would burn your electrical system.

A2Modern cars are full of electronics, from the engine management computer, entertainment centre to the timers for lights wiper etc.

All of these would be wiped out.

On older cars, with no electronics, it would be possible to reverse the battery with no ill effects.

The starter will still turn the right way because of the field windings. The dynamo will need you to 'flash' the field winding with a positive lead, before you start up, so it exites the right way initially.

Old cars used to have Positive earth, instead of the modern standard of Negative earth.

Changing the polarity is a popular modification, so that you can then use modern 'negative earth' In Car Entertainment systems and upgrade to an Alternator.

I did this to an old Austin 1100 and the only thing I had to change, was the connections to the fuel guage, to make it read the right way.
