The water pump housing can be removed by removing the three retaining bolts. The gasket can cause the housing to stick. You might need to pry the housing off.

newer cars are easy. The water pump should be in a housing with four bolts on the top. Loosen the four bolts and everything inside the housing will come out and the housing will remain in the car. When you buy a new water pump, it wont be a whole water pump it will only be the insides. Put the insides back in the housing and bolt it back together.

on a 5.0 you need to remove air cleaner housing,fan shroud,fan, belt,fan belt housing ,bottom & top hose ,small hose to pump and thermostat housing L shape,remove all bolts to pump ,mostly all bracket bolts to right side of you to slip the water pump housing pin underneath it ,put a new thermostat and gasket while you are at it !!!
