A scraping, ticking noise up high in the steering column is normally caused by the SIR coil. This is a coiled flat wire for the air bag. The noise does not harm anything. You have to replace the SIR coil. If the noise is down low, this could be due to a bearing in the steering column, or may even be a fault in the steering rack and pinion that transmits noise up the column. A dry boot at the firewall can also make noise. Try lubricating the rubber boot with a spray lube, like a good lithium grease.
A noise in the GMC Yukon steering column could be due to several factors, including worn or damaged components such as the steering gear, universal joints, or bearings. Additionally, issues with the power steering system, such as low fluid levels or a failing pump, can contribute to unusual sounds. Loose or damaged parts within the steering column itself may also be a source of noise. It's advisable to have a qualified mechanic inspect the vehicle to identify and address the specific cause.
A squeaking noise in the steering column of a 1995 Toyota Celica can be caused by several factors, including worn or dry bushings, a failing steering shaft, or issues with the steering column's plastic components. Lack of lubrication can lead to friction between moving parts, resulting in squeaks. Additionally, loose or damaged components can exacerbate noise. Regular maintenance and inspection can help identify and address these issues.
