Don't know the color of the wire but you will just have to use a test light to see what wire is hot to the radio.

How do you find a power wire for a car radio?
Look in the area behind the dashboard and see if there is an empty multi-way cable connector there, just waiting for a radio to be plugged into it. Standard radio connectors usually have several wires on them, not just a "hot" 12 volts and a ground wire. The extra wires are there to connect to loudspeakers in the doors, etc. If you have such a connector then a car accessories shop should be able to sell you a standard plug and cable loom, along with a wiring diagram, so you can hookup the radio and its speakers correctly. <><><> Every vehicle has a fuse that feeds "accessories" such as a radio. (Or radio/cassette or radio/CD player.) What you need to find is that fuse i.e. its position in the fusebox, and the color of the wire(s) connected to it, so you can tap into one of them to power a radio. Or, better still, if you can find a wiring diagram for the vehicle's electrics, there may already be a wire that goes from that fuse to the radio's fixing position in the dashboard, and from the wiring diagram it should be possible to find out the color of the wire. Often, if you can get hold of the proper Haynes Maintenance Manual for your vehicle, it will tell you about all the fuses and give a wiring diagram too. <><><> Another place to look is in the Owner's Handbook for the make and model of car. They normally list all the fuses but don't usually have any wiring diagrams or wire colors.

DO NOT go putting wires into your fuse box, this could cause problems in the future, if you have a power Antenna wire on the back for your radio, [Blue in Most cars, but refer to your cars manual.] Splice the REMOTE wire from your amp into the Power antenna wire OR if you dont have a power antenna wire. if your car has RAP [Retained accessory power, or your radio doesnt turn off until you open a door] its a good idea to use a 12V Accessory wire. any more questions just email me. Note : Many head units will only energize the power antenna wire when the radio is on and then deenergize it when you switch to cd. So your best bet is to just go with the accessory wire method described above.

With the radio wire harness where you can get to use a light probe to find a wire with power to it, ignition key off. That will be the always hot wire that is used to power the memory that remembers stations when the radio is off, it should be yellow. Make note of which wire that is. Then with the key on probe the connector again for a second hot wire, it should be red. That will be the one I would think you would want to use to power your CD player

There should be a black ground wire in the Chevy Celebrity radio wiring harness. If for whatever reason that is not available then simply hook a wire from the metal shell of the radio to a convenient point on the dashboard near the radio. I would use a convenient bolt or screw if at all possible.

Why bypass amp just get wiring diagram and hook up remote"blue wire" to the remote lead from factory amp. Or unplug amp use a meter and check which wire has power. Then turn off radio and check wire again should have no power with radio off. This will only work if factory radio is still installed. But that wire would be remote wire. Just hook up new radio remote wire to the found wire. Then connect speakers to factory plugs and use the amp.

Ground wires are normally black or green. Use your multimeter on the resistance setting, put one probe on a metal part of the car's chassis and the other on a black or green wire. When you find the wire that has 0 resistance that will be your ground. Mark this wire "Ground" Next you will need a constant source (meaning power even if the ignition is off) and most vehicles will use a yellow wire. Switch your multimeter to the voltage detect setting Put the black probe to ground and use the red probe to check the wires. The ignition MUST BE OFF. When you find the wire mark it "+12v" Next you will need a switched source (meaning power only if the ignition is on the on or Acc) most vehicles will use a red wire for this but check with the multimeter with the ignition ON once you find the wire turn the ignition OFF if the wire looses power mark that wire "ignition" Great now you can wire your radio for power! Now you will need to find what wires go to what speakers.
