The Power Steering resevoir cap on my 2001 Infinity i30 says to use "Dextron Type ATF". Folks, "ATF" stand for "automatic Transmission Fluid". Even though the cap says to use it in place of "power steering fluid", I was cautious about it. I visited the local Nissan dealership and asked the parts department guy about it. He told me that some models of Infinities use transmission fluid in the power steering system.

If the power steering in your 1993 Infiniti J30 is hard to turn, it could be due to low power steering fluid, a leak in the system, or a failing power steering pump. First, check the fluid level and top it off if necessary. If the fluid is fine, inspect for leaks in the hoses or connections. If you still experience difficulty, the power steering pump may need to be replaced or serviced.
In a 1999 Infiniti G20, power steering fluid is added to the power steering reservoir, which is typically located near the engine, on the driver's side. The reservoir is often marked with a cap labeled "Power Steering" or a similar indication. To check or add fluid, ensure the engine is off, remove the cap, and fill it to the recommended level indicated on the reservoir. Always use the specified type of power steering fluid as outlined in the owner's manual.

On the Infiniti i30, the power steering system is typically located in the engine bay. The power steering pump is mounted on the engine, usually on the front or side, and is connected to the steering gear via a hydraulic line. The fluid reservoir for the power steering is also located in the engine compartment, often near the pump for easy access.
Gm recommended power steering fluid
Transmission fluid should not be used in place of power steering fluid. Power steering fluid is less compressible so that it can transfer power to different systems. Transmission fluid is meant for lubrication and has higher dimulsibility than power steering fluid.
Power steering fluid is basically clear. Some cars use transmission fluid in the power steering which is dark red. You can use power steering fluid in cars that use transmission fluid but not the reverse. The cap of the reservoir should say power steering fluid only.
