On a broken hood release cable for just about any car, first you must order the proper hood release cable from the dealer or get a "GOOD" one from a junk yard, second you must go to the front of the car after having the replacement cable in your hand, and find a way to spring the hood latch open...probably by sliding under the car with a long straight bladed screw driver and eye protection in case rust drops in your peepers, once you get her open begin the replacement proceedure by disconnecting the cable from the latch under the grill.... then remove it from it the handle end inside the vehicle, do the reverse to install.....slide it in through the inside to the hood latch and affix, not too hard of a job. Always lube the hood latch and cable periodically to keep it from sticking and binding this in turn will keep these type of parts around for a long time . Good Luck, Jay

If the drivers door on a 1989 Accord will not open but everything appears to be connected how can you get the door open to replace the latch?

I have dealt with this problem before at our bodyshop. Basically, a spring inside the latch has broke, and now there is no way to release the latch, even by manually pulling on the release lever at the latch. Prepare to replace the latch, as it is not repairable. Be prepared to be working inside the car. To make it easier to work, unbolt the seat, and remove from the car. Remove the door panel, and also the door handle. You will have to chisel at the plastic part of the latch, and break it off bit by bit. Eventually you will be able to release the latch. good luck

How do you change the hood latch cable on a 1990 Pontiac Firebird when you cannot find the answers in your repair manual?

It depends on what is wrong with the cable. When you pull the hood release within the car, is the latch not popping? If you can get the hood up at all, then you should look at the actual latch system where the cable runs, there is a metal clip that holds the cable to the latch. Have another person pull the interior latch release and watch the cable.

How do you release the bonnet latch on a jaguar 2004 xj6?

To release the bonnet latch on a 2004 Jaguar XJ6, first, locate the interior latch release lever, typically found on the driver's side near the footwell. Pull the lever to release the primary latch. Then, go to the front of the vehicle, where you should feel for the secondary latch under the center of the bonnet. Slide the secondary latch to the side or push it to fully open the bonnet.

Have a 97 Monte LS with what seems like a sprung latch - it bounces off the pin it usually grabs. Gave it a shot of WD-40 tried to find a release with a screw driver no luck. Outside temp is 20-ideas?

*continued question* This is a driver's door latch.... if there is a catch to release the latch back into the normal position I cannot seem to find it with the screw driver attempts. Again it is bitter cold out but the latch isn't seized by ice, and the door does not seem to be weighed down on it's hinges and out of normal "closing" alignment (but I cannot guaranty it isn't)
