It is located to the right of the ignition coil pack, on top of the motor. It is the black sensor, right behind the alternator, bolted into the intake manifold.
The wiring map sensor tells the diagnostic program. If the problem arises and where the problem is located. The wiring map sensor is located below the dashboard.
Unsure where you'll find the bugger, get your auto sparky to replace it (its a MAP sensor) as it can cause real headaches if it dies, engine rebuilds and such

The Map sensor, (Subaru simply calls it a "pressure sensor") is located on the passenger side on the strut tower facing the Air cleaner.(US cars). The part itself has a 3 wire connector, and a single vacuum hose coming out of it. The part is about 1 1/2 inches wide and utilizes 2 mounting bolt holes. Take note that only "one" of these holes is used for mounting.
Map sensor is located behind the dashboard on the passenger side. The map sensor will be adjacent to the central computer unit.
Map Sensor is right on top of the Intake manifold, I believe the left side if not mistaken.
The map sensor is screwed into the side of the upper intake manifold.

www.motorcraft.com does not list a MAP sensor for a 1996 F150 4.9 L ( 300 cubic inch ) straight 6 cylinder They list a remanufactured air mass sensor ( mass airflow sensor )

The MAP sensor on a 1996 Ford Explorer 5.0 is located on top of the engine near the throttle body. It is bolted to the engine and also has a wiring harness attached to it.
A 1996 Dodge Ram does not use a mass airflow sensor. It has a MAP sensor mounted in front of the throttle body.
