Try putting the key in the ignition and taking out quickly, and or lubricate the ignition lock mechanism. it worked for me.
No, the 1984 Corvette does not use a traditional ignition key like most vehicles. It features a specialized key that includes a chip for the vehicle's anti-theft system. This means that standard keys won't work in the ignition, and a specific key must be used to start the engine.
What kind of auto is it. Sounds like you may have an ignition switch problem.
take the key out of the ignition switch.
The chip is typically located in the key, not in the ignition switch. This key contains a transponder chip that communicates with the vehicle's ignition system to allow the engine to start. When the key is inserted into the ignition, the system reads the chip's unique code to verify its authenticity. If the code matches, the vehicle will start; if not, it will not allow the engine to run.
With a key, by turning on ignition
The key and the ignition lock are badly worn. Try a different key if it doesn't fix it you need to replace the ignition lock.

The first ignition key was installed in the 1910 Cadillac. On this car you turned the key and then pushed another button to start the engine. In 1949 Chrysler introduced the ignition key combination as we know it today.
