Yes, its a craniotomy. They did it to my brother. They first monitor you intracranial pressure (ICP) and if it is too high then they will remove pieces of the skulls to relieve the pressure. Those pieces are then stored in a bone bank until your brain is no longer swollen. That is when they replace the skull. It could take weeks for the swelling to go down depending on the patient. My brother has had his out for 3 and a half weeks now and its no where near ready to go back in.

Elevate it and ice it.
If your ankle is swollen slightly then you should not have to convince your father that you have sprained your ankle. Put hot and cold cloths on it to bring the swelling down and a tensor bandage (not too tight) that you can buy at the drug store. Meanwhile talk to your mother or an aunt to have the ankle looked at in case you have a hairline fracture.
That feeling is probably just excess fluid from a mild sprain. Press down the tissue of the swollen ankle with your finger, then do it to your other ankle. If the swollen ankle rebounds slower then the normal ankle, it's just a sprain. Elevate and ice it. If not, seek medical advice.
Heat is for therapy, cold is for swelling. If you have a swollen finger you should use ice, you should check with your doctor if the swelling doesn't go down.
