A flowering shrub or small tree is the type of plant that the coral bean is.

Specifically, the coral bean (Erythrina herbacea) can be found growing natively in northeastern Mexico and the southeastern United States of America. It grows to a mature height of 16 feet (5 meters). It has gray bark, red seeds, red tubular April to July-blooming flowers, spine-covered stems, and yellow green leaves. Despite its beauty, the plant must be approached with care since all parts contain toxic alkaloids which are curare-like in their paralyzing effects when ingested.
