That really depends what you mean by grit. If it's just powdered rock, there is no effect. If you mean rock salt, then the freezing point is reduced because the salt dissolves. The lowest freezing point achievable for salt solution is - 21.1 degrees C.

When grit (such as salt) is added to water, the freezing point of the water decreases. This is because the presence of grit disrupts the formation of ice crystals, requiring a lower temperature for freezing to occur.

grit has salt in it. salt has a higher freezing point so it stops water from frezzing unless it is really cold

What happens to water when antifreeze is added to it?

When antifreeze is added to water, it lowers the freezing point and raises the boiling point of the mixture. This helps prevent the water from freezing in cold temperatures and boiling in hot temperatures, making it more suitable for use as engine coolant.

What happens to the freezing point of pure water when salt is added to it?

When salt is added to water, the freezing point of the water decreases. This is due to the salt disrupting the formation of ice crystals in the water, requiring a lower temperature for the water to freeze.

How would the freezing point of water decrease if 4 mol of NaCl were added to 1kg of water?

The freezing point of water would decrease if 4 mol of NaCl were added because NaCl is a solute that disrupts the water molecules' ability to form solid ice. Each mole of NaCl added to water reduces the freezing point by approximately 1.86 degrees Celsius. So, with 4 mol of NaCl added, the freezing point of water would decrease by about 7.44 degrees Celsius.

When antifreeze is added to water the freezing point of the water is what?

It drops to about 12 degrees Fahrenheit.

How much would the freezing point of water decrease if 4 moles of Na-Cl were added to 1 Kg of water?

The freezing point decrease is -14,8 oC.

How much would the freezing point of water decreases if 4 mol of sugar were added to 1kg of water?

The normal freezing temperature for pure water is 0c. Howeverif sugar is added in the pure water, the freezing point will be lower than zero. How far below zero will depend on the sugar concentration in the water.

When altitude increases what happens to the freezing point of fresh water?

it rises

How much Would the freezing point of water decrease of sugar were added to 1 kg of water?

The freezing point of water decreases by about 1.86 degrees Celsius for each mole of solute (such as sugar) dissolved in 1 kg of water. So, the freezing point would decrease by 1.86 degrees Celsius for every mole of sugar added.

The normal freezing temperature for pure water is 0c. Howeverif sugar is added in the pure water, the freezing point will be lower than zero. How far below zero will depend on the sugar concentration in the water.

What would be the final freezing point of water be if 3 mol of sugar were added to 1 kg of water?

-5.58 C

What occurs when NaCl is added to water?

The boiling point of the solution increases, and the freezing point of the solution decreases.
