They can be directly connected with the right rj connectors. Or just do it the easy way and buy a router, hub, or crossover and setup a simple network. Connect them by network id through the network wizard.
It depends on what you want them to do. If you simply want to network two computers only, this is done with a cross-over cable.

Run them both together using lan cables into the router.

There are loads! USB cables with double A type connectors can, WiFi can be used either directly or indirectly via a router/hub. Serial cables can be used to do a direct transfer although it has a slow baud rate. You can use 2 network cables vis a hub, switch or router - you can also use a single network cable if its a crossover cable. You can use bluetooth, Infa-red or any other number of wireless mesiums. I've used an old parallel printer cable before! Either way - you need 3 common elements to do a transfer: - A physical connection - the hardware used to make the transfer - A logical connection - a common language (or protocol) for the physical hardware to 'talk' with and - An application connection. usually an operating system, FTP program, web browser, firmware - something to build and deconstruct the data sent over the connection
yes if the computers are connected via a (RJ45) network cable then they can share resources such as internet

You would use cross-wired cables to connect 2 computers together.
LAN or a Local Area Network.
In short, it is 2 or more computers connected together for the purpose of sharing information data or (less commonly) hardware. (The Internet is a really, really, REALLY big network...)
All the components needed to connect 2 computers together are two Ethernet cards, a network switch and 2 Ethernet cables. Alternatively a single USB transfer cable can be used for simple file transfers.
Workstation is a computer, workgroup is usually at least 2 computers connected to each other.
If two protons are connected, that is perfectly fine. As long as they are not merged into one big piece, it is completely fine. There isn't anything wrong for 2 protons to be connected together.

it depends on the circumstances, if there is a server in the room and a switch/router then they will be using the mesh star but if not and all the computers have 2 Ethernet ports on the back of them then they are more than likely to be using the Ring topology. But these days they are normally connected to switch ----> Then a Router -----> then a Server which is connected to the internet and has a very strong and secure firewall. ^^^^ IGNORE ! Local area network. :)
You need to keep the batteries in parallel. The positive poles of the battery are to be connected together. Also the negative poles need to be connected together. This will maintain the voltage at 12 volts and also give you double the endurance when discharging the batteries when connected to a load.
