You can use two different types of devices depending on the type of protection you need. If you are simply trying to prevent the computer from being damaged you would use a surge protector, while if you were trying to protect it from turning off as well you would use an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) which is more expensive.
You should be aware however, that a surge from a lighting strike can also travel through networking wires as well, and for complete protection, you should have those go through a surge protector as well.
There are a number of devices on the market that will protect your computer equipment from surges. They either simply cut the power in the event of a power spike, or contain electronics to 'smooth out' the supply voltage. Any computer or electrical retailer will advise you on your options.
A surge protector. There are different models on the market - from a single plug to replace the plug on the device you want to protect - to eight-way sockets which allow you to protrct up to eight devices at once.
There is no perfect protection from power surges. However, you will be fairly well protected if you use a good surge protector. A Power Strip from the dollar store might do fine, but I wouldn't trust it. Try something from a company which specializes in this, like APC (www.apc.com). Make sure that it protects all the feeds to and from your computer system. Of course, you don't need to put protection on your mouse, but anything that comes from another room, or especially from the street should have a barrier. Usually this means just power and internet, but if you have Coaxial connection or anything else like this, it should have protection too. That's a surge protector.
A surge protector will do that nicely
Anything that is not a UPS will not protect a computer during a blackout

Use an anti-surge device - there are a number of commercially-available devices which will offer protection (most come with insurance against the device failing)
Never connect to the internet, never download to or from a device that has been connected to another computer or the internet. Always use genuine software. Never use secondhand software or software from an unknown origin.
A surge protector protects a system against lightening strikes but not against sags or blackouts. Line conditioners also called power conditioners protect your computer against sags and brownouts. The UPS protects your computer against blackouts ~TiffyQT

Protect the circuit with an OCPD, an over current protection device, such as a circuit breaker or fuse.
A protection cover made of plastic, fabric, or metal used to protect an electronic device from sustaining damage. The higher cost sleeves are tested to withstand high falls and fire.
'Overcurrent protection devices' are used to protect conductors from excessive current flow... a fuse
Supply transformers at substations are provided with circuit-breakers for protection.
use AVR . it will protect not only your software from being corrupted but also your hardware.
