How can i Format a Raw USB Flash Drive of 80 GB Capacity. Under Xp Message box showing unable to format
Using an install dvd, there is usually an option to format
You can install XP at 98 direct. Means there is no requirement to format 98. Go into your computer's BIOS and set the master boot device as the CD ROM drive. Insert the winxp disk and restart. From the screen that appears you should be able to format the Hard drive, convert the file system from FAT32 into NTFS, and install windows XP.
if you want to fromat a hard drive for windowsXP then read this... /a< you will need your winXP cd This a fast trick to get you computer in DOS mode. Power off your computer then power it back on, while your computer is turning on keep pressing F8 repeatedly until you computer prompts you how you want to run. Some of your options will be run in safe mode, run in safe mode with networking, but you will select run in DOS mode. Once your in your DOS mode then you are ready to go!
Did you install Windows XP to the hard drive? New hard drives do not come with an operating system; to boot from it, you have to install one on it.
Of course you need to partition your drive. If you already have installed Windows XP You need to make a new partition for win98 formated FAT32. WinXP use NTFS formatting.
I believe you can hook the 98 one up CABLE SELECT and it will view it just as a file system to retrieve from.
There are several ways to do this. Perhaps the easiest is to buy an external housing for the drive, and connect it via USB to the WinXP Pro computer. There are many such USB hard drive housings. Look for 'external USB hard drive enclosures' or 'external USB hard drive cases'. This is easy to do; it assumes that the WinXP machine has a USB port, a very reasonable assumption these days (2005). It also provides flexibility, as you can then use that hard drive from the Win 98 machine on any computer with a USB port. The traditional way to do it is to open up the WinXP Pro machine's box and see if there is room to physically locate the drive in the machine, and also to see if there is a connector type for the hard drive you want to install (from the Win98 machine), most likely a 40-pin IDE connector. Then its a matter of setting jumpers on the drive, usually to change it from 'master' to 'slave' mode, and connecting the ribbon cable between the computer's motherboard and the disk drive.
The second drive can certainly be installed, but the computer will only recognize the boot block of the "C" drive. alternate bootloaders can be installed that take over the boot block, and will allow mutliple Operating Systems.
It is possible one is a different format. The FAT32 File system can only recognize drives 32GB and under, Windows XP would normally install with a FAT32 file system if the drive was small enough. Windows Vista however does not. In any case it uses NTFS, which stands for "New Technology File System". If the other drive is formatted with NTFS and above 32GB, then the Windows XP would not be able to access it, or even see it.
haha all of them do!
I want to install Win XP (2001 ver) without service pack but my system has already WinXP SP2 and when I insert the disc and click on setup it says "Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD." Now How can I install WinXP. My winXP CD is not bootable. My DVD writer is not working so I am able to make any bootable disk. My current version of XP is unable to start in safe mode with command prompt and i do not want to format my any of the drives?
