The 2003 Mazda engine coolant temperature sensor is located on the front of the engine, above the thermostat housing. The sensor will have to wires leading to it.
At the back of the engine on the coolant outlet that goes to the heater hoses on the firewall.
On a 2001 Mazda Miata, the temperature sensor, also known as the coolant temperature sensor, is located on the engine block. Specifically, it is typically found near the thermostat housing, on the cylinder head. This sensor monitors the coolant temperature and sends the information to the engine control unit (ECU). If you're looking for it, you may need to access it from the top of the engine bay.
The coolant temperature sensor should be located near the upper coolant hose where it enters the engine block, just a few inches nearer to the windshield. It is usually a gold color.
The Engine Coolant Temperature sensor is on the back of the engine, right in the middle (and unfortunately the most difficult place to reach!). It is mounted on the coolant outlet that connects to the heater hoses up on the firewall. It is connected by a single electrical harness and screwed in. I can't remember exactly, but I believe you can get at it with a 17mm wrench size. The same answer will apply for 1990-2005 Mazda Miatas.
The Air Temperature sensor is in the same unit as the Air Flow Meter on top of the stock air box. The coolant temp sensor is mounted on the coolant outlet on the back of the engine, center, just above the transmission.
There is a coolant temperature sensor and a temperature gauge sensor. the coolant sensor is located on driver side of the cylinder head. screws right into it, and the temperature gauge sensor is on the front side of the cylinder head right under the distributor. hope this helps

COOLANT sensor on mazda 6 where is it
It stands for Engine Coolant Temperature. I believe it is wired up to your hot/cold gauge in the dashboard of the vehicle. It screws into the side of the engine and monitors the temp of your radiator fluid as it circulates.
the water temp sensor in the earlier NA models are at the coolant neck in front of the engine. it's the plug pointing straight up on the 90-93s.
Coolant temperature sensor is locatedat the front of the intake manifold near the upper radiator hose.
