The Data-Link layer is the place where the data's are broken in to small transferable packets. The NIC card is included into this layer is for one main reason as i have studied. Though the NIC card is a Physical device the algorithms which are embed with in the NIC card do the packet process. The data link layer is the place where the packets are sent to the next layer. though it looks simple the algorithm is not a simple calculation.
