From a nutritional perspective, only the complexity of the molecule. Nutritionally essential minerals are all elements, something you'd find on a Periodic Table- iron, zinc, copper, calcium and so on. Vitamins are complex, organic (carbon containing) chemical compounds. Both are essential to good health.

Vitamins are substances that occur naturally in certain food like vitamin C in citrus fruits. Minerals are solid inorganic substances with chemical composition like Calcium in milk.
Difference from source perspective. Vitamins are synthesized in the human body and some are synthesized in plants and animals and obtained through diet.

The natural and ultimate source of minerals is the soil and water. From soil, it is fixed in plants and gets transferred to animals including humans.
