I myself do not live on the Mexican border, but I live in a border town called Indio. It is no different than any other town except for the fact that there is a larger population of Hispanics and possibly a larger number of hispanic markets and restraunts. You will hear Spanish spoken more frequently, and there are times when you hear Mexican music coming from someones car stereo or party, but that's about the only differences i have noticed, other than the fact that the school district seems to be predominantly hispanic.

My life hasn't changed because I live among my brothers of another skin. We are all fellow human beings. I find the best way to get along with others is to see each person as an individual and not as a race. If you look towards your fellow man with love and respect, he or she will do the same.

I will have to say that I have visited a border town that was right next to Mexico, and the difference that I saw there was that most of the store front advertisments were in Spanish. ( This was in San Ysidro, on the San Diego side near Tijuana )What you may find in these border towns are many buildings that offer excange rates on Mexican money, as is customary in the town of Calexico.

I have been to Mexico four times throughout my lifetime. I fell in love with the bright paper flowers and the beautiful leather purses and leather sandals that they sold. I was even serenaded on a local bus by a local band of troubadors. I laughed at some of the velvet paintings, but fell in love with the shops that displayed a wide range of Guitars. When I think of Mexico, I think of the craftsmen who made those beautiful guitars and all the time and effort that went in to making my beautiful leather accessories.

I hope this has answered your question!
