Any country which had people crossing the Atlantic Ocean and settling on the Eastern side of the country would then expand across the country to settle the Central and Western areas. As such, eastern Canada, eastern USA, and parts of eastern South America would have extended their borders east to west. As well, there were north to south or south to north migrations, like what continues today.

Most settlers crossed the Atlantic Ocean, starting from a European harbor. Travel across the Pacific Ocean took longer and therefore was more expensive. The weather patterns in the Atlantic Ocean offered specific times when travel was easier. Still, based on known shipwrecks along the Atlantic Coast of the USA, many ships were caught in bad weather.
