the earth would be incomplete

If you were to remove the Earth's crust, you would expose the layer underneath, with is the mantle. The mantle is composed of hot, liquid rock called magma. However, if the magma were to be exposed by the removal of the crust, it would just form another crust. The surface would cool, by radiating energy into space.
