the earth would be incomplete

If you were to remove the Earth's crust, you would expose the layer underneath, with is the mantle. The mantle is composed of hot, liquid rock called magma. However, if the magma were to be exposed by the removal of the crust, it would just form another crust. The surface would cool, by radiating energy into space.

What is the thickness of the earths crust in miles?

The average is 9 miles. The average continental crust thickness is 22 miles thick. The maximum crust thickness is 56 miles underneath the Himalayas, and is 16 miles thick at its thinnest in various places. The average oceanic crust is about 4 miles thick. For the entire Earth then, the average crust thickness is 9 miles. To scale size, the earths crust would be about the thickness of 3 ordinary sheets of paper on a basketball. The thickness of a chicken eggshell would be 16 pieces of paper on a basketball, so the earths crust is 5 times thinner than a typical egg shell. And the crust is only as thick as the egg shell at its maximum thickness underneath Nepal.Sleep tight.

If convection in the mantle increased how would the earths crust be affected?

An increase in mantle convection could lead to changes in plate movement and potentially result in more frequent and intense volcanic eruptions and earthquakes on the Earth's crust. This could also lead to the formation of new crust (via seafloor spreading) or the consumption of crust (via subduction), altering the tectonic landscape.

Why do geologist think earths core contains mostly iron?

Other orbiting bodies contain more iron then earths crust does

What thin layer of rock surrounds the earth?

That's called the crust. The size of the crust compared to the size of the Earth's mantle can be compared to the size of the radius of an apple as the mantle and the apple's skin as the thickness of the crust. the crust is broken up into several plates that float and move around on the mantle's molten surface.

Which of earths layers would be the least dense?

The Earth's crust is the least dense layer. It is made up of rocks like granite and basalt and is relatively thin compared to the other layers of the Earth.
