Lipid is a heterogeneous group of compound which are soluble in organic solvents but in soluble in water. Important groups of lipids are fats , oils, triacyl glycerol; phospholipids, waxes and terpenes including steroids and carotenoids. This last group ie carotenoids and steroids is the lipid that are not made up of fatty acid but they are composed of isoprenoid units, their examples are cholestrole and red pigment carotin of carrots.

Are a kind of lipid that consists of two fatty acids and phosphate group?

Phospholipids are a type of lipid that consist of two fatty acids and a phosphate group. They are a major component of cell membranes and play a crucial role in maintaining the structure and function of cells.

What is a molecule that has a glycerol backbone two fatty acid chains and phosphate containing compound?

Fatty acids and glycerol may combine to form monoglycerides, diglycerides and triglycerides (normal fats and oils). Addition of a phosphate group to a diglyceride will give a membrane lipid (phospholipid).

What is the building block of lipids?

The building block of lipids is a molecule called a fatty acid. Multiple fatty acids combine with other molecules, such as glycerol, to form different types of lipids, such as triglycerides and phospholipids.

What are the unbranched chains that make up most lipids?

Most lipids are made up of unbranched chains of fatty acids. These fatty acid chains consist of long hydrocarbon tails with a carboxylic acid group at one end. The length of the chain and the degree of saturation influence the properties of the lipid.

A lipid made of a phosphate group and two fatty acids?

That could describe a surfactant which can allow water to dissolve into oil by forming reverse micelles with the water on the inside with the polar phosphate heads effectively dissolved in the water andthe fatty tails protruding outwards dissolving into the oil.Reverse micelles are able to hold relatively large amounts of water in their interior. In that way, a "pocket" is formed which is particularly suited for the dissolution and transportation of polar solutes through a non polar solvent.

What is considered a component of lipid?

Fatty acid, glycerol.

What structural component is found in both phospholipids and triglycerides?

Both phospholipids and triglycerides contain fatty acids as a structural component. Fatty acids are long hydrocarbon chains that make up the lipid structure in both molecules.

What is a polysaturated lipid?

A lipid's fatty acids contain more than one (1) double bond of carbon.

What type of biological compounds contain fatty acids?

Fatty acids are found in the compounds of lipids. The fatty acid lipid compounds can be found in both plants and animals.

Does cholesterol have any fatty acids?

No, cholesterol is a lipid molecule itself and does not contain fatty acids. Cholesterol is a sterol molecule, while fatty acids are long hydrocarbon chains with a carboxylic acid functional group.
