When charged particles in the storm clouds, Positive in the bottoms and Negative at the top, also known as the 'anvil', gather in clumps, they can be sent downwards in the form of lightning to connect to the positive charges in the Earth's soil. Lightning is 'lazy' and seeks a path of least resistance, and sometimes that path could be through a human body. They advise you not to stand next to trees because since they are tall, the lightning might decide to travel through them because they offer less resistance and it might hit you as well. Me, being a person who has experienced being struck by lightning can say that making yourself the tallest or largest object in the way of lightning is a foolish thing to do, because you will provide a path of least resistance for it to follow.

not that rare it depends are you short or tall lightning hits the tallest thing nearby but if you are hit by lightning that means you are the tallest thing in the area and most people are a little bit coo coo and they go hide under a tree witch they will most likly be shot by lightning . You wll get hit by lightning if you are the closest thing near by but that usually happens when you are in a open feild . Just for the tall people you may want to lay down flat when lightning is being seen .

Humans can be definitely hit by lighting but not neccisarily thunder.... Lightning is a physical thing, but thunder is just a noise. Try and avoid getting hit by lightning by staying in cars, staying out of places abundant in water, and out of trees.
No. There are several things wrong with you logic. People are hit by lighting all the time and all they get is hurt and burns ending up in hospitals. Mermen are not real and people can not change into them either by lightning, spells, water or the moon. If you want to pretend go get a costume.
It is when to lightning thingys are the same and hit the ground at the same time.
