Pentanal and 3-methylbutanal are chain isomoers meaning they both have the same atoms but are structually different. Pentanal is staight chained and 3-methylbutanal has one of its carbons branching somewhere in the middle of the chain. Branching decreases the boiling point of a molecule, therefore Pentanal has the higher boiling point.
