Starter is asmall device in a fluroscent tube light to start the ciruit. Once lit, starting circuit cuts off automatically
If your 1990 Grand Plymouth Voyager cuts out and dies for not reason, but starts after a couple times of cranking, the starter might be going out. You can have the starter tested.
Shimming any GM starter is likely going to assist in better performance of the starter. It cuts down on heat radiation and vibration when not in contact with the block.
It could be as simple as a loose battery cable or dead battery. If it turns over but wont start try removing the breather cap and spraying starter fluid in there then start it. If it runs then cuts off the problem is the FUEL PUMP. If that continues after u spray it, It's truly the fuel pump. Now if that doesn't start it, then it could possibly be the TIMING BELT.But that's the worse case scenario. That is a great running car so good luck.

It cuts off the engine while you start it up.
If your car stereo is always hot at all times it shouldn't go out or has connectivity when at "start" Turning the key from "on" to "start" temporarily cuts out the power connectivity. Stereos are not designed to have power at "start" because pretty much the starter uses much amperage and voltage from the battery the seconds while the engine is being cranked
Check the starter solenoid first, followed by the starter. The starter is either not getting power from the solenoid or the starter itself is bad.
