You will have to run new electrical wire or a single ground wire back to the panel (though the former is highly recommended). A GFCI outlet will cut off the circuit if it senses voltage leaking to ground. If there is no ground wire, it will not function.

Can you install a GFCI on a 2 wire circuit?

Yes, you install a GFCI on a 2 wire circuit.

How do you install a 20 amp switch for well pump?

Black/White/Ground power in and the same out. Tie the incoming and outgoing white wires together under a yellow wire nut and push them back in the box. Tie the ground wires together under a green wire nut and connect the pigtail from those ground wires to the ground screw on the switch. Connect the 2 black wires you have left to the 2 screws on the switch. Doesn't matter which black wire you connect to which screw.

How do you connect wire to a breaker?

There is 220 volts between the two poles. If you are running 2 wires (black and white) + ground then you hook black to one pole and white to the other. Put red or black electric tape on each end of the white wire and wrap around wire for 3 inches or so next to the connection so the next person will be able to see that the wire is hot and not a neutral.

How do you wire a light to a switch at the end of a run and which controls an outlet?

Bring power into the light switch box 12/2 or 14/2 wire depending on the existing wire. Make sure you use the exactly same size wire that is used on that circuit. If you do not know look at the breaker in the main panel that controls power to that circuit. 20 amp will be 12/2 wire and 15 amp will be 14/2 wire. Now run another wire from the switch box out to the outlet. Inside the switch box, strip both white wires back 3/4" and connect them together under a wire nut and push this back into the box. Connect the 2 ground wires together and then connect that to the ground screw on the switch. You now have 2 black wires left. Connect them to the 2 screws on the light switch. Does not matter which black wire you connect to which screw. At the outlet connect the ground wire to the green ground screw, black wire to copper screw, and white wire to silver screw. That outlet will now be controlled by the light switch.

How do you wire a GFCI outlet with only 2 wires?

To wire a GFCI outlet with only 2 wires, connect the black wire to the brass screw and the white wire to the silver screw on the GFCI outlet. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions and turn off the power before starting the installation.

How can an outlet be properly grounded with only 2 wires?

An outlet can be properly grounded with only 2 wires by using a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet. The GFCI outlet can provide ground fault protection even without a separate grounding wire.

How do you wire 220V with 2 black 1 white wire?

Your black wires are your hot wires. The white is your neutral or common. It would be best to run an equipment ground (green wire) too.

What are 2 red and black wires in the trunk for?

Where does the red wire in a baseboard heater connect to the black or white wire in the wall?

In the heater you will have two wires. You should then have 2 supply wires from the panel, and 2 wires from the thermostat. The neutral (white) supply wire should go to one of the wires on the heater. The hot (black) supply wire should connect to one wire from the thermostat. The other wire from the thermostat will connect to the other wire from the heater.

How do you wire a 3-wire 240V 15A pump motor to a GFCI receptacle or GFCI breaker?

== == == == Don't know if there are any 240V GFCI receptacles so I vote for a 240V GFCI breaker which would be 2 pole. The pump should have two colored wires and a white. White goes to the neutral bus and the two colored wires go to the two poles of the breaker. As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. Before you do any work yourself,on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

What if the new light fixture has 2 black wires and no white wire?

If the new light fixture has 2 black wires and no white wire, it likely means that the fixture is designed to be connected to a circuit where the white wire has been designated as the hot wire instead of the black wire. Make sure to double check the wiring and consult a professional if you are unsure.

Trying to install an IKEA light The light has black white and 2 yellow and green striped wires Ceiling box has 2 black 2 red and white wire Room has 2 switches What should connect to what?

Connect the black wire from the ceiling box to the black wire on the light. Connect the white wire from the ceiling box to the white wire on the light. The yellow and green striped wires from the light are likely the ground wires, secure these to the green or bare copper wire in the ceiling box. Cap off or tape the red wires from the ceiling box, as they are likely for a separate function and are not needed for the light fixture.

How to wire a ceiling fan with only 2 wires?

How can I safely install 2 GFCI outlets on the same circuit?

To safely install 2 GFCI outlets on the same circuit, you should connect the line wires from the circuit to the line terminals on the first GFCI outlet, then use additional wires to connect the load terminals of the first GFCI outlet to the line terminals of the second GFCI outlet. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions and consult a licensed electrician if needed.

How do you connect a 240 volt electric heater It is a baseboard unit the has a black and red internal wire for connection Do you use 12 2 wire or 12 3 wire The thermostat has 2 red 2 black wire?

2 wire (plus ground) is all you need for a 240 volt heater provided there is no 120 volt accessories in the heater such as a built in convenience receptacle. If cable is used, the white wire of the 2 wire cable will be a HOT-LEG even though it is white-this is one of the code exceptions. The size of the guage is dependent on the size of the load and other factors. 12 guage will handle up to 1500 watts generally.
