Two phase is single phase for today's purposes. We generally do not call 240v single phase "two phase" anymore, although technically that's what it is. 240v two phase has power to both lines to the motor versus 120v single phase has one power line and a neutral. Fortunately most single phase motors today are dual voltage. So check your nameplate data of the motor for guidance. The use of proper motor protection will prevent any damage to motors if wrong voltages are inadvertantly applied.

A two-phase system is an archic system, in which two phase voltages are displaced from each other by 90 electrical degrees. Like three-phase, it had the advantage of producing a naturally-rotating magnetic field, so could drive induction motors without any need for a starting capacitor.

Which A motor is to be operated from 230 V 50 HZ single phase AC?

All types of motor can be run from a single-phase supply provided the frequency, voltage and power capacity of the supply matches that of the motor and it has been designed to run on single-phase.

Is 3 phase motor run on 1 phase supply?

No. That would be a single phase motor.

Single phase motor speed is determined by the?

frequency of the power supply it is connected to. The speed of a single phase motor is directly related to the frequency of the alternating current (AC) power supply. As the frequency of the power supply changes, the speed of the motor will also change.

What will happen if you will give ac supply to dc shunt motor?

it will not work.

Will it hurt 230 volt single phase motor plugged into 277 V single phase?

Yes, plugging a 230V single phase motor into a 277V single phase power supply can potentially damage the motor due to the higher voltage. It is recommended to match the voltage ratings of the motor and power supply to prevent any issues.

How do you start a three phase motor to a single phase power supply?

You don't. A three phase motor will not start unless it is connected to a three phase supply.

Why synchronous motor called double excited motor?

AC and DC supply sources we are given to motor so we are called double excited motor

Why doesn't a shunt motor operate on a single phase AC supply?

Shunt motors do operate on single phase AC. There are millions, if not billions of them worldwide running right now.Make certain your voltage supply is correct for your motor. Also, make certain you're providing the proper amperage. Make sure it's not a three phase motor. (three phase motors won't operate on single phase power.) If your supply voltage and amp supply is correct and the motor still doesn't run, you've got a bad motor.
