The word 'lake' is a common noun, a word for a body of water generally surrounded by land; a word for a thing.

A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun in a sentence.

The pronoun that takes the place of the noun 'lake' is it.

Example: The lake is nearby. It is just outside of town. (the pronoun 'it' takes the place of the noun 'lake' in the second sentence)

Note: The noun 'lake' is a proper noun when it's the name of a specific lake; for example: Mirror Lake is nearby, just outside of town. When the noun is a proper noun, it is always capitalized.

lake victoria is a common noun because if it was a proper noun it would be so much more confusing and make so much less sense. Also, it wouldn't make sense for it to be a common noun.
