To replace the battery in a 1998 BMW Z3 key fob, first, locate the small slot or notch on the side of the fob. Use a flathead screwdriver or a similar tool to gently pry the fob open. Once opened, remove the old battery, typically a CR2016 or CR2025, and insert the new battery with the correct polarity. Finally, snap the fob back together securely.
There is no battery inside the key to replace. The key actually charges through your ignition. If its not functioning you will just have to order a programmed key from the dealership.
By sticking your key in the door lock and turning.
Use you key to unlock the doors.
According to my owner's manual you must contact a BMW dealer to replace the key.
yes
How do you replace a key battery on a 2004 Saab 93
To reinitialize a keyless remote battery on a BMW X5, first, replace the old battery with a new one, ensuring the positive side faces the correct direction. After replacing the battery, sit in the vehicle with the new key, close all doors, and press the start/stop button without pressing the brake pedal. This should reinitialize the key. If it doesn't work, you may need to consult the owner's manual or a BMW dealer for further assistance.
most likely it's a dud battery in fob. Easy to replace, just prise open fob. Keep a spare battery somewhere as I have been locked out by a dud battery!
The keys that BMW provides are sealed...they make them that way so you have to go to the dealership to buy a new one. I followed this diy (link below) and it worked for me on my 2001 325Ci coupe.
