To replace the oil pan seal on a 2001 Volvo S60, first ensure the engine is cool and elevate the vehicle securely. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan bolts, then gently pry off the oil pan. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly, apply a new sealant or gasket as specified, and reattach the oil pan with the bolts, ensuring proper torque. Finally, refill the engine with oil and check for leaks.

A 2001 Ford escape differential leak is usually caused by a bad seal. Replace the differential seal. The new seal should stop the oil leak.

The rear oil seal on any automotive engine is located at the rear of the crankshaft, which is usually only accessible once the oilpan is removed. The exceptions to this rule concerning the oilpan still involve removal of the flywheel or flex-plate to gain access, as these seals are installed from the exterior of the crankcase onto the crankshaft.

YOU DON'T!!! I have a 2003 avalanche and I had to replace the water pump you can't replace the seals!!! It's a defect in the 2001 to 2003 avalanche the seals fail.
The seal should run about 10 dollars or less. The mechanic shouldn't charge more than 40 dollars or so. It is a pretty easy job. Buy the seal, remove the driveshaft, knock the seal out, replace it with the new one and reinstall the driveshaft. Piece of cake. good luck.
There is not really any easy to do it. You just have to sit the new gasket around the rim of the oilpan and bolt it back on. Just make sure that the gasket is centered or it will not make a good enough seal. However you could use a small amount of sealent glue or something simalar and stick the gasket into place before putting the pan back on, but only a very small amount or you will create a gap.
Front seal: remove engine or transmission and replace the seal. Rear seal, remove the drive shaft to replace the seal. Unfortunately, you typically only have problems with the front seal.
