I have changed the battarie on a Renault megane 03 dci for some reason i am now geeting a steering fault coming up on the computer and the power steering is not working?

I am having exactly the same problem - except that I have not changed the battery recently.
This is a very common fault in Renault megane II of this age as is inherent problems with the turbo giving out.

The proper hand position on the steering wheel used to be 10 and 2 but it has changed and is now 9 and 3. I am not 100% why it changed but I believe it changed so you could have a better grip on the steering wheel.Part of the reason for the change was to have your arms out of the way of the airbag.
