The largest tornado (in terms of path width) in New England since official record keeping began in 1950 was the F4 that struck near Windsor Locks, Connecticut on October 3, 1979. It was 0.8 miles wide. It killed 3 and injured about 500.

The worst tornado in New England history, however, was the one that struck Worcester, Massachusetts on June 9, 1953, It killed 94 people and injured over 1200. Although officially an F4 the tornado may possibly have been an F5.
