Donnie Van Zant is a member of 38 Special. Jimmie formed his own group, signed with a record label and recorded his first album. "Southern Comfort" included the single "Ronnie's Song" co-written by Jimmie as a tribute to his beloved cousin. He still plays this number as requested at his live shows. In 2008, Jimmie released a second album "My Name is Jimmie," which included the hits "Ray Ray's Juke Joint" and "Redneck Revolution. "Cut from the Same Cloth," Jimmie's upcoming album featuring collaboration with James Dean Hicks, Charlie Craig and Tommy Southern, has already yielded popular singles in the UK. In 2011 Jimmie and the band appeared in the made-for-television documentary Boots 'N' BBQ Presents: Grills Gone Wild - from the Back Yard to Back Stage. The film, now available on DVD, is awaiting its network air date. Also in the works is a national television show, currently in development with Jimmie's management team and production company Chappell Films and Entertainment.

I questioned Jimmie on this topic back in 1987 and he told me it had always been Van Zant. He also asked who told me that it wasn't Van Zant. I told him that I had heard it from many different sources and wanted him to clear the air for me. At the time, he was with a band called Impulse and I was taking photos of performances and eventually took videos (see youtube). I had been to his house a few times and vice versa to piggy back VCR tape decks to make copies of videos I had shot. On one occasion at his home, his father came over, looking very similar to Lacy, whom I had seen on at least 2 other occasions. At that point I figured he had told me the truth about his name.
Johnny Van Zant was born on February 27, 1959.
