Chewing gum after meals can lead to heartburn for some people, primarily because it stimulates saliva production and can encourage swallowing air, which may increase stomach pressure. Additionally, certain types of gum, especially those containing sugar alcohols, can cause digestive discomfort. However, for many individuals, chewing gum can actually aid digestion by promoting saliva flow, which helps neutralize stomach acid. If you experience heartburn frequently, it may be best to monitor your gum-chewing habits and consult a healthcare professional.

Chewing gum as we know it today was invented in the 1850s by Thomas Adams.
