There are two types of Marzipan:
1. Uncooked is made of ground blanched almonds, powdered sugar, meringue powder (dried egg white powder), and salt.
2. Cooked is sugar, water and ground blanched almonds.
Fondant is a semi-cooked mixture of powdered sugar, Gelatin, water, glycerine (optional) and vegetable shortening. has no almonds, but can be flavored with almond extract.
It depends on the recipe. Rolled fondant might be a better substitute for marzipan than poured fondant.
Rolled out marzipan.
Marzipan under fondant icing makes the cake too sweet, because fondant icing makes the cake too sweet on their own. It is better to use a buttercream with less sugar.
Yes you can, but I would strongly recommend that you only but one or the other on the cake because marzipan tastes horrible with any topping apart from icing. Also marzipan is unbelievably high in sugar! Hope this helps.. x:)
Fondant is mostly use to cover your cakes and gum paste is used for modeling people or furniture, animals, etc... but you can also use fondant for small details on your cake such as flowers, stripes, or polkadots! hope i helped! and good luck! (:
There are two pastes that can be used to cover cakes and make candies. Fondant ~ sweet, creamy paste. Marzipan ~ sweet, pliable almond paste.
Gum paste is said to roll out thinner and easier than fondant. Fondant in usually used to cover a cake and gum paste is used to make decorations.
