John Book gets called English and Yankee, but not just by Samuel Lapp.

He refers to black men as Schwartz, which is basically the same word in German, in Pennsylvania Dutch and in Yiddish. It means black.

He describes one of the bad guys as not schtumpig. That translates as the runt of a litter.

And I think someone gets called dopplick. A child that is learning to walk and is unsteady on his feet is called dopplick. Thar's a term of affection, so nobody calls a drunkard dopplick (although he is) except perhaps a girlfriend or wife that's in a forgiving mood.
