First of all, the FLDS church is NOT part of the LDS church although the LDS church did practice polygamy for many decades in the late 1800s. Often, male children in the FLDS church are ostracized and treated as if they are outcasts. They are seen as competition for marrying the females in the group, which the older males want all to themselves. They are known as "the lost boys of the FLDS." The females are being shown in the news on TV presently because of an allegation of sexual abuse by a young FLDS girl. That's why you see the girls more right now, because they are being moved to a safe location and interviewed in an effort to locate the girl who made the call.
