He didn't need to be, he turned to the Dark Side. If you mean why he had to be fitted with the suit, it's because it provided him life support, as he was dying from severe burns and not to mention, he only had one arm and no legs left.

There are a lot of different answers about who is the most powerful Jedi, like Yoda, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker. The real answer is Luke Skywalker. Why? He turned Darth Vader to the light side, made Vader kill the Emperor, resisted the dark side, and created the New Republic. Even though it was alsmost destroyed by the Emperor's clones, Dark Jedi, Yuuzhan Vong, Lumiya, and Darth Cadeus, he built it back up every time. **Actually Anakin Skywalker is the most powerful jedi. He is the chosen one and the only one who could bring balance to the force. Not to mention that his midiclorian counts were unheard of. That caused Darth Vader to die because it was only through the emperer's power that he was being kept alive. He was injuring by lava in his fight against obi whan. So when he killed the emperer Darth Vader died. So technically nobody killed Darth Vader he just died. However it also could be argued Luke is to blame. If he had not convinced Darth Vader to come back to the light side of the force he would not have died.

Yes, but he didn't really die. If you watch the 4th movie (A New Hope) carefully, you'll see that his robe is empty (Vader steps on it). This is because, rather than letting himself be killed by Vader, Obi-Wan surrendered himself to the Force and vanished, a bit like how Yoda vanished when he died in the 6th movie (Return of the Jedi). That's also how Kenobi was able to reappear as a Force spirit throughout the movies.

He said that obi wan was right because he did turn evil. New Answer 12-28-10: When Anakin (Darth Vader) was dying he told Luke that he was right. Anakin was verifying that Luke was right about there still being good in Darth Vader ultimately causing him to come to Luke's rescue and destroy the Emperor. He also said "tell your sister, you were right" meaning tell Princess Leia that you were right about there being good in Vader. That is why we see Anakin at the end of the movie with Obi-Wan and Yoda in force spirit from. Before he died, he turned back to the good side because Luke was right, he still had good in him.
