good question. variations must occur in evolution because its what evolution is about. listen to the story to understand:

once upon an evolution, there were these prehistoric horse-like animals. they lived in a valley. when the grass they ate started to die off, many died. even though they had little food, some survived. some of them had genes that gave them long necks. because of this, they were able to reach the food in the trees. only specimens with long necks survived, and these genes were passed on to their posterity.

now, if all these animals had been the same, they would have all died of and gone extinct. but because of that gene, that genetic mutation, some lived and became giraffes. withot variation, it would have simply been a mass extinction.

How does natural variation affect evolution?

Natural selection (the driving force of evolution) is the selection of genetic variations by how they effect the organism's chances of survival or reproduction. If they diminish it's chances, the organism or it's immediate offspring die and the gene is gone. If the genetic variations increase it's chances, then it survives. Without genetic variations there can be no evolution. Natural selection is the selection (by environmental pressures) of those variations.

What three things must be present in order for respiration to occur?

In order for respiration to occur, three things must be present: oxygen, a source of energy (such as glucose), and a metabolic system capable of breaking down the energy source to release energy for cellular processes.

What mechanisms must be in place in order for evolution to occur?

For evolution to occur, there must be genetic variation within a population, inheritability of these genetic traits from one generation to the next, differential survival and reproduction based on these traits (natural selection), and long periods of time for changes to accumulate across generations.

Why might scientist study evolution?

A scientist may study evolution in order to understand current species of organisms, and what the future of said species may be. Evolution is a direct gateway from the past to the present allowing scientists to understand everything from genetic structures - to geographic activity.

In order for evolution to occur in a population individuals with a trait that is naturally selected for must?

Individuals with the beneficial trait must survive and reproduce at a higher rate than those without the trait. This differential reproductive success leads to an increase in the frequency of the advantageous trait in the population over time, allowing for evolution to occur.

What must happen in order for evolution to exist?

Without heredity what use would there be to selection and why evolution? Just take beneficial mutations in the germ line for example. No heredity and nothing to enter the populations gene pool and no evolution. No heredity and there would be no variation in populations and the first environmental challenge would carry your population to extinction.

Which must be in place within a population in order for the theory of evolution to hold true?

In order for the theory of evolution to hold true within a population, there must be genetic variation among individuals, a mechanism for inheritance of traits from parents to offspring, and differential survival and reproduction based on these inherited traits. These conditions allow for natural selection to occur, driving the process of evolution within a population over time.

What are the steps of stellar evolution in order?

You can find an overview of stelar evolution in the Wikipedia article entitled "Stellar evolution".

What gas must be present for the aerobic breakdown of glucose to occur?

Oxygen gas must be present for the aerobic breakdown of glucose to occur. This process, known as cellular respiration, takes place in the mitochondria of the cell and generates energy in the form of ATP.

These are important when you are investing. It is used in order to determine the risk that might occur during an investment.

What molecules must be present in order for energy production to occur in the mitochondria of an animal cell?

Oxygen and glucose are the raw materials. Enzymes guides the process
