the kurds. The Kurds are a nation without a state. A state is a government. A nation is a group of people with language and culture in common.
Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, most states in Africa. These have more than one nation (people) living within the borders of one state. There are also several states that are less than a complete nation. The Arab states claim that together they are one nation. Germany, Austria and part os Switzerland speak German, but except under the Holy Roman Empire in the Middle Ages were never under one government.
It is probably impossible to have a state without at least one nation. There are many states that contain multiple nations. The true nation state is actually quite rare, even if small numbers of minorities are allowed. The most likely states are those that use the "conversion" model such as the US, Australia, and Canada. In these states, there is a formal process for joining the nation. Most states use the idea of birth makes a citizen. So even the small number of Danes in Germany or the small number of Germans in Denmark must remain subjects of the government and not Germans or Danes.
Japan is a good example of a nation-state because the vast majority of its population shares a common culture, language, and history. The country is relatively homogenous in terms of ethnicity and the government structures reflect a unified national identity.
When a state or nation has absolute control over its territory, it is said to have sovereignty. This means that the state has the authority to govern itself internally and externally without interference from other states.
Singapore is a modern city-state in Southeast Asia. It is an independent island nation with a high population density and a developed economy.
A nation refers to a single ethnic community of people who share a common identity and usually a common origin, while a nation state may be multi-cultural and is defined as a group of people united in the political and legal structure of the State.
A country that contains a nation within its boundaries is often referred to as a "nation-state." This term signifies that the people within the country share a common national identity, culture, and history. The idea is that the nation and state are aligned in terms of their boundaries and sovereignty.
Yes, a nation can exist without its own state. A nation is a group of people who share common characteristics, such as language, culture, or history, while a state is a political entity with its own government and territorial boundaries. For example, the Kurdish people are a nation without a state, as they do not have their own sovereign country.
A nation state is an uncommon example of a country with only one nation :)

Well the most obvious example of a nation without a state is the Kurds. They are a repressed nomadic people whose main area of travel overlaps the borders of Syria, Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. They are treated badly and unfairly in Turkey and Iran mostly. Sometimes Iraq, also. The Kurdish people have been fighting for a state of their own for almost a thousand years. Impressive, is it not?
One example of a nation-state is Japan, which has a largely homogenous population with a unified cultural identity and a centralized government that represents the interests of its citizens.
The Kurds. There are others, but they have significantly smaller populations.
a country that no longer exists.

Iceland is seen as a strong example
The USA is not a nation state but rather is a Union, a nation state derives political legitimacy from the fact that it is a sovereign entity that is part of the country. A good example of a nation state is Japan. The Union system used by the USA is where the states remain under the entire country.
