A compound sentence contains at least two independent clauses. The clauses are joined with a conjunction e.g.

"Barack Obama won the election, but George Bush is still the president."

"lizards are fast and if you step on a lizard's tall it will come off"

"I like to eat taffy, but my hamster is an advocate for spinach."

"He cleaned the windows and he mopped the floors."

"She works here but she is on vacation this week."

"We can grill hamburgers or we can get burgers at McDonald's."

"You go to the store, you buy the bread, and you bring it home to make Sandwiches."
The boys are having a snowball fight and the girls are making a snowman.

She is a talented teacher, but she doesn't get along well with other staff members.

I'll make a chocolate cake or I'll make a batch of cookies.
