Does every boy have to be circumcised?

In the United States, only about 56% of the newborns in 2006 were circumcised. The current trend in the United States is that the circumcision rate is decreasing. In other countries, such as Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia, the circumcision rate is very low, typically on the order of about 10% or less.

Some males have to be circumcised for medical reasons. There is no medical condition that requires circumcision of a newborn. As boys grow up, circumcision may be needed for severe cases of acute balanitus. Generally, phimosis is treated by topical application of a steroid cream and gentle stretching of the prepuce opening.

No this is up to the parents. Sometimes religion will require it but it is recommended for sanitary purposes.

However in many countries circumcising is frowned upon or even against the law. Almost 100% of infant circumcisions are done with no medical justification. In places where it is a popular procedure the bodies of infant boys are routinely violated for reasons that are vague at best. While there is a slight reduction in the incidence of various conditions later in adulthood, those conditions are already rare, and the value of mutilating boys' penises for a slight perceived gain is considered by many not a good enough reason to do it.

There is no reason for a person to be circumcised aside from satisfying some religious need, or in rare circumstances where there is a clear medical indication. These circumstances almost never affect infants. No doubt the custom became entrenched in the first place as a result of poor hygiene practices among children and men.
